Amy's Vacation

Made reservations with Alaska Airlines for Amy to join us in Fairbanks on August 18th.  Plan is to see a museum or two, then head down to Denali Park for four or five days.  After Denali we will travel down to Wrangell-St Elias Park to McCarthy and Kennecott Mine area, then on to Valdez for a cruise on Prince William Sound.  From there we will work our way over to the Kenai Peninsula to spend the last week of Amy's trip before she fly's home from Anchorage on September 9th.  We want to take a cruise on Resurrection Bay out of Seward, and do the requisite visit to Kenai and Homer.

Alaskan Trip Route

Have put together an itinerary with Al for this trip. The places on this itinerary are not necessarily places we plan to stop, but it was needed for estimating mileage and for setting a timeline for the trip. We do not feel required to follow the route exactly nor the time we have estimated for travel in each area. The only part that has to be followed more or less is that time in which Amy will be with us because of her flight reservations (9/18 - 9/9). Al and I will meet in Las Vegas to begin the trip. At the end we will separate for home at Hungry Valley (Gorman, CA).

Note: We will undoubtedly depart a week, or more, earlier than this to have a chance to stay longer at some spots when we need, or desire to do so.

Alaska Trip 2012

The purpose of this blog will be to document my trip to Alaska this summer. The plan is to drive my Dodge Power Wagon with Four Wheel Camper from Mesa, AZ to Alaska and back over a period of approximately 10 weeks (mid July - late Sept). Interests for this trip are camping, fishing, exploring offroad and visiting historical sites along the way. Currently I'm researching routes and places I must see. My friend Al from San Diego will be making this trip with me in his Tacoma outfitted with an AT Flippac Camper. We are both recently retired and have been wanting to do this for a long time.
This is my first attempt at blogging and I hope I can sort it out well enough to keep our friends informed on our travel.
I also want to note that this is not just about Alaska as it just represents about a third of the journey.  We will also be traveling in British Columbia, Yukon and a bit of the Northwest Territories, all of which are just as important to the trip as Alaska.
